I just came back last month from an awesome internship at Antartic Press (AP) Comic.
For those of you who don’t know, Antartic Press is a independent comic book publishing company located in San Antonio Texas with titles ranging from hard core The Last Zombie
to historical adventures of Time Lincoln,
and of course, Gold Digger
which is approaching it’s 20th year run. Even though it’s an independent comic book company, it packs a wallop with guys who have working experience with Marvel and DC to bring AP it’s top notch quality. I learned a ton from these guys and had the opportunities to try out pin up drawings and then eventually stories that were published. Books I worked on range from Gold Digger Specials to Zombie Recognition Guide which brought me to use cool ink techniques I never knew existed.
I learned everything from storytelling, anatomy, pencils and inks, to colors, as well as publishing and business side of comics, knowledge one will never know unless they are in the bis. The learning experience was truely invaluable, and I want to thank everyone at AP, Rod Espinosa, a very talented artist/creator best known for his Eisner Award Nominated title The Courageous Princess for introducing me to this opportunity and Joe and Ben Dunn, the president and founder of AP for GIVING me this opportuny! Now that I am back to the Bay Area, my hardest working days have just begun.
P.S. A lot of these books are available from the Antartic Press website or from Amazon, so be sure to check them out! Just click on the pictures above.
